Livelihood program
Poverty is not simply lack of income; it is denial of fundamental freedom and opportunity to develop as a human being. There is a vicious cycle of poverty causing disability and disability causing poverty. Families of children with disability often require more human and financial resources for support, such as medicines, rehabilitation and transport. Besides these direct costs, children with disabilities are often excluded by society and those living in chronic poverty often have limited access to healthcare, clean water, nutritious food, shelter, education and employment.
At KCH we empower parents with skills and knowledge on sustainable livelihoods. Our integrated approach of providing parents with skills enables parents to acquire a range of skills hence improving on their living conditions. Among the skills parents are trained in are handicrafts making, Diary farming, poultry keeping, gardening, horticulture, mushroom growing, chalk making, soap making, piggery, cookery and baking. We believe that imparting parents with knowledge and skills is a more sustainable approach to enabling them improve on their living conditions.
