Job Summary

Katalemwa Cheshire Home for Rehabilitation Services (KCH) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to children and young people with disabilities in Uganda.

With support from the National Postcode Lottery and Lilian Foundation, KCH is implementing the Feeding to Save Lives Project. This is an innovative project aimed at improving nutrition and feeding outcomes for children with disabilities in the districts of Bukomansimbi, Budaka, Kayunga and Kole. The two-year project focuses on Early Identification and management of feeding difficulties, strengthening caregiver capacity, improving access to rehabilitation services, and promoting disability-inclusive nutrition, reduced avoidable deaths and life-threatening nutritional and feeding challenges among children with disabilities and their caregivers, in Uganda

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct nutritional assessments and identify feeding difficulties among children with disabilities.
  • Develop individualized nutrition and feeding care plans.
  • Train and mentor caregivers on appropriate feeding techniques, positioning, food preparation, and responsive feeding practices.
  • Work closely with physiotherapists and other rehabilitation professionals to provide multidisciplinary care.
  • Participate in community outreaches, screening, and early identification of children with feeding challenges.
  • Monitor children's nutritional status and growth, documenting progress and outcomes.
  • Support referral and follow-up of children requiring specialized nutrition or medical services.
  • Collect project data and contribute to monitoring, reporting, and documentation of project achievements.
  • Participate in capacity-building activities for health workers, community volunteers, and partner organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science and Nutrition, or related.
  • Registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
  • At least two years of experience in community nutrition or paediatric nutrition is an added advantage.
  • Experience working with children with disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.

General Requirements

  • Commitment to child safeguarding and disability inclusion.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the project districts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Computer literacy and report-writing skills.
