Job Summary
Katalemwa Cheshire Home for Rehabilitation Services (KCH) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to children and young people with disabilities in Uganda.
With support from the National Postcode Lottery and Lilian Foundation, KCH is implementing the Feeding to Save Lives Project. This is an innovative project aimed at improving nutrition and feeding outcomes for children with disabilities in the districts of Bukomansimbi, Budaka, Kayunga and Kole. The two-year project focuses on Early Identification and management of feeding difficulties, strengthening caregiver capacity, improving access to rehabilitation services, and promoting disability-inclusive nutrition, reduced avoidable deaths and life-threatening nutritional and feeding challenges among children with disabilities and their caregivers, in Uganda
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Assess children with disabilities to identify motor and functional impairments affecting feeding.
- Develop and implement individualized physiotherapy and positioning interventions that support safe feeding.
- Train caregivers on appropriate positioning, handling, seating, and exercises that improve feeding outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with nutritionists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other rehabilitation professionals.
- Conduct community-based rehabilitation and outreach services in project districts.
- Monitor children's functional progress and document rehabilitation outcomes.
- Support early identification and referral of children with complex feeding difficulties.
- Participate in caregiver education sessions and multidisciplinary case reviews.
- Maintain accurate client records and contribute to project reports and monitoring activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy or Higher Diploma in Physiotherapy.
- Valid registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
- At least two years of clinical or community rehabilitation experience.
- Experience working with children with disabilities is an added advantage.
- Good interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
General Requirements
- Commitment to child safeguarding and disability inclusion.
- Willingness to travel frequently within the project districts.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Computer literacy and report-writing skills.
